Keynote Sessions Led By:

  • Steve has over fifteen year’s experience in threat intelligence and event response with positions in the US military, intelligence community, and private sector. Steve held a number of roles to include threat intelligence, service delivery, and various leadership positions at Mandiant, FireEye, and IBM in the private sector. He is a frequent contributor and presenter in a variety of industry forums/conferences.

    Prior to the private sector, Steve led a 15-person cyber threat intelligence team in the US intelligence community for a Combatant Command. In this time, he provided sworn testimony on cyber threats to both the Senate Armed Services Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee for Intelligence, guided two different teams to win the NSA's Rowlett Award, was the DIA analyst of the Year, multiple DoD Senior Civilian of the Year awards, and is a listed author for several National Intelligence Estimates.

    Steve's career started in the US Air Force as a Special Agent with the Office of Special Investigations primarily focused on counterterrorism and felony crimes. He was involved in combat deployments across several continents in this capacity.

    He is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a Bachelor’s of Science in Anthropology, received his Master of Science degree from Jacksonville State University, and most recently a Master’s of Science in Information Design and Strategy from Northwestern University. He is also an adjunct faculty member with McKendree University and a Board Member for Missouri State University’s CX program

  • Adrian joined the Unit 42 team in 2022 joining the mission of helping our customers with cyber risk management, proactive assessments and DFIR (digital forensics and incident response). Currently under the Transformation Team, Adrian works with customers to create a solid strategy and vision that improves and benefits their security programs by understanding the customer environment, identifying improvements in their technical design, and process and tooling. Prior to that, he was a security solutions lead for Orange Business Services, where he engaged with global multinationals and Fortune 500 corporations in developing security strategy, maturing security programs, and building integration and managed security services. Previously, he was with Optiv, a security systems integrator, where he was a client solutions architect acting as a trusted advisor with customers helping them build effective cyber security programs as well as navigate them through the vast security services and technologies available in the market.

    Before that, Adrian worked at a number of security OEMs and large MSSP security firms such as Dell SecureWorks, Raytheon Foreground Security, Crowdstrike, and Fidelis Cybersecurity providing niche security products and managed security services.

    Prior to working with customers, Adrian worked at BankUnited financial institution for over 5 years where he became the CISO leading the bank’s security strategy, developing a governance, risk and security controls framework, managing security technologies, and overseeing internal/external audits and regulatory oversight.

    Earlier in his career, Adrian was a jack of all trades in the IT field working with Cisco routing and switching, building data centers, Microsoft and Novell servers, firewalls, IDS and mainframe systems. Adrian also was part of a managed security startup early in the security landscape to develop security monitoring services, dedicated SOC, service line engineering, and consulting engagements for penetration testing and security program audits.

Panelists:

  • A retired 20-year US Army cyber defense warrant officer who honed his IT skills with multiple global IT exercises, two combat tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq, and many operations support missions with US allies. In the last few years in uniform, he was tasked with overseeing and handling global incident response actions for JFHQ-DoDIN (the cyber defensive arm of the DoD) in uniform. He helped to support efforts to secure, operate, and defend the Department of Defense Information Network, known as the DoDIN. He managed multiple global cybersecurity incidents and helped to shape future systems, solutions, and practices for the 3+ million DoDIN users. Notoane has been an adjunct professor for the University of Maryland Global Campus for the past five years and teaches senior undergraduates in database administration and cybersecurity analyst courses. He is currently a vice president in the Enterprise Security Architecture division at Morgan Stanley. His daily role and responsibilities are building and writing controls, policies, and procedures for the global IT infrastructure for the Firm and all its entities, including E-trade, Bank, and Wealth Management. He believes helping to educate and mentor others is a task all cybersecurity professionals should take on.

    His education includes a Master of Science in Cybersecurity and a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management. He has a swath of military IT education. He holds industry certifications for CISSP, CISM, Multiple SANs certs, Splunk Certified Architect, EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker; CompTIA: Advanced Security Practitioner, Cybersecurity Analyst; Security Analytics Expert, Security+, Microsoft: Enterprise Administrator Expert; Security Administrator Associate; Administering, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.

  • Alex Minster is a cybersecurity professional with a passion for Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) and Missing Persons. He is a volunteer Director at TraceLabs, an organization focused on crowdsourcing OSINT to help locate missing persons.

    Alex's devotion to TraceLabs stems from his desire to use his technical skills to make a meaningful impact on society. He has been instrumental in operationalizing the organization's mission and has played a vital role in the success of its Global OSINT Search Party events.

    With over a decade and a half of experience in cybersecurity, Alex has held several roles and has been recognized for his contributions to the field. He is very active in numerous cybersecurity groups including DC608 and Black Hills Information Security.

    Beyond his professional accomplishments, Alex is an avid oldschool gamer who enjoys arcades, retro gaming, and tabletop games. He brings his passion for adventure and his commitment to helping others to everything he does, both in and out of his professional career.

  • Casey Cammilleri is the CEO and founder of Sprocket Security. He helps businesses outsmart cyber adversaries and prevent cybersecurity breaches. With a decade of exhilarating exploits under his belt, Casey emerged from the shadows of hacking to revolutionize the world of security. Over time, he has forged industry-defining security tools, implemented ingenious methodologies, and developed his wizardry into scalable software that is now the technology driving Sprocket Security.

    Dissatisfied with the status quo, Casey championed a radical transformation in the industry. He dares to challenge the norm, swapping the outdated annual ‘penetration test’ ritual for an unending cadence of dynamic, real-time security testing to ensure threat are constantly met with proactive defenses.

  • Casey Smith is currently a Security Engineer with Amazon.com where he mainly focuses on Cloud and Network Security in Red Team assessments to proactively secure systems at scale.

    Prior to joining Amazon, Casey spent 12 years in the Navy in both the construction and cybersecurity field. Casey blends together his extensive experience in Unix, Networking and Cloud security to help drive security organizations forward and help them think outside the box. Outside of work, Casey is a father of 2 children, an avid video game enthusiast and amateur cook.

  • Dan Vargas is a Solutions Architect at Cloudflare, an organization recognized as a leader in cloud connectivity, performance, and security with a mission statement of "building a better internet".

    Dan is responsible for understanding customer complex architectures, providing technical guidance, and recommending solutions based on requirements. Prior to joining Cloudflare, Dan had an extensive 20+ year career, in the states and abroad. Dan has worked with organizations with the likes of Lucent Technologies, Dell, Splunk and managed service providers like SecureWorks across multiple roles, from "hands on keys, eyes on glass" security analytics, to consultative and solutioning roles. The vast experience has been amassed through exposure and interaction with different CISO/CSO, Technology Leaders, Security Programs, Organizational Policies and Procedures.

    Aside from professional accomplishments - Dan enjoys spending free time outdoors with his family, tinkering on home and mechanical projects and riding his motorcycle.

  • Drew Schoeneck is a Special Agent with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). He is assigned to the Cyber Crimes Unit within the Wisconsin Statewide Intelligence Center (WSIC) and is tasked with investigating cyber and cyber-enabled crimes. He is also a Task Force Officer with the FBI Milwaukee Cyber Squad. Previously, he has served as the Digital Data Investigator with the WI DNR, Bureau of Law Enforcement, a senior forensic examiner in the DCI Digital Forensics Unit, and as the Internet Fraud Investigator at WI DATCP. Special Agent Schoeneck has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from UW-Stevens Point and Master of Science degree in Forensic Computing and Cybercrime Investigation from University College Dublin. He has also instructed courses for Madison College’s Digital Forensics advanced certificate program and UW-Whitewater’s Master of Science in Cybersecurity degree program. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and has over 15 years of experience investigating cybercrime and conducting digital forensics.

  • Joe Hopper is a Principal Security Consultant at Fracture Labs, a local offensive cybersecurity firm with a reputation for exposing vulnerabilities within the most challenging environments. Before founding Fracture Labs in 2018, Joe dedicated 15 years to honing his expertise across a spectrum of engineering disciplines, including application, infrastructure, and security roles, at Fortune 500 companies.

    Along with a team of elite consultants, Joe has led successful security tests against a wide array of devices, from smart home technologies and security systems to industrial machinery and aircraft. Fracture Labs has breached organizations ranging from innovative startups to Fortune 50 giants, amassing a wealth of experience in tailoring security measures to fend off real-world cyber threats.

  • Justin is an experienced healthcare and technology leader. He has lead numerous teams focused on development, operations, security, and architecture. Most recently he has taken on the challenge of preparing his organization for the adoption and impact of Artificial Intelligence.

  • Mike Thompson, Security Architect Manager at Varonis, leads a team of security and cloud experts dedicated to data-centric security. As part of the Varonis Incident Response Team, Thompson regularly assists Varonis clients in defending against insider threats and cyberattacks. As a Cloud specialist, Thompson has assisted numerous organizations with navigating complex data security challenges as they move away from on-prem data stores and in to M365, AWS, Google, and Salesforce. Before joining Varonis, Thompson worked as a technology consultant with Kraft Kennedy.

  • Scott Deluke is the Director of Sales Engineering for Abnormal Security. After starting as an SE at Abnormal, Scott has moved forward to help support Abnormal in a Leadership role. Prior to joining Abnormal, Scott worked for Mimecast as an SE, but his true grass roots stem from almost two decades of being in IT including various roles including Leadership, Infrastructure Architect, Sys Admin, all the way to helpdesk, SOC and call centers before he jumped to the vendor side. Outside of IT, Scott has been a two time business owner as well which helps tie in a lot of the challenges that organizations go through. When not helping secure the world from attackers, Scott spends his free time being a father, a husband, a mentor, and a servant of the community to help those less fortunate.

  • Harsch is a Principal Solution Engineer at SentinelOne, a SANS Instructor, and an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Michigan with over 25 years of experience in military, manufacturing, consulting, and professional services. He is a commissioned officer in the US Army (MI), holds degrees in business (MBA), and computational linguistics (BA), and maintains the following certs: GCIA, GCIH, GCED, CISSP, CTIA.

  • Tyler Petersen is a Penetration Tester with Schellman Compliance, LLC. Prior to joining Schellman in 2022, Tyler worked as a Penetration Tester for a variety of institutions, specializing in external and internal network penetration testing. Tyler also supported various other areas of Information Security. Including vulnerability scanning, incident response, and security operations. Tyler has a wide variety of certifications such as Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), GIAC Exploit Researcher and Advanced Penetration Tester (GXPN), Certified Red Team Operator (CRTO), and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
